Scandic has finally added mobile check out system to all hotels in its portfolio. Originally, the system appeared this spring, but at that time it was tested in several hotels. With its help visitors can quickly check out in just a couple of clicks with the help of a smartphone or a computer. Check out includes payments for guestroom, minibar and restaurant bills.
During the test period, more than half a million checkouts were made through the system. Next year, Scandic expects this figure to grow at least twice. The hotelier is sure the new checkout system will be incredibly popular with guests as it is very simple. Moreover, the majority of people in the Nordic region widely use smartphones in everyday life.
Scandic Park hotel in Stockholm was the first hotel where the new checkout system was introduced to public. Having gathered very positive feedback, it was decided to extend it to other hotels of the company. During check in, hotel guests register telephone number or email, and it must be used during the checkout as well. One day before the checkout, the guest receives a text message or an email with payment details. Then he/she should add information about minibar purchases, update details if necessary, and pay for the stay. When leaving the hotel, guests can simply leave the keycard at the reception. The checkout can be made in the morning of departure or the evening before.
These days, when mobile technologies appear in all spheres of our modern life, hotel companies do not hurry to offer many digital services. The majority still stick to ability to book hotels using cellphone or computer. However, in the Nordic region many people use smartphones and computers to manage their bank accounts, pay for travel, and make purchases and bookings.
