Hotel Loyalty Programs are Very Important for Young Travellers

News The latest study by Harris Interactive shows that millennial travellers (people aged 18 to 30) are more sensitive to various loyalty programs and value them more comparing to travellers from other age groups. Naturally, they are also more engaged in mobile technologies and are interested in everything new.

The study was conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Expedia. More than 8,500 adults from the specified age group in 24 countries of the world participated in the survey, during which they determined their preferences in business and leisure travel.

According to the study, more than a half of millennials (51%) consider loyalty programs important, and they think of the loyalty programs they participate in while booking a hotel. At the same time, only 30% of travellers aged 46-65 consider this important.

What devices do millennial travellers use when they are making a booking? Almost a third, 32% of respondents, make bookings using smartphones. Another 20% use a tablet for that purpose. Compare these to results of travellers over 45 – 12% for smartphone and 9% for tablet respectively.

Young travellers enjoy good meal – almost 42% of business travellers aged 18-30 spend money on high end food, while only 26% of travellers aged 46-65 do the same. Young business travellers are also more likely to spend on in-room service – 37% say they regularly spend their company’s money on that.

Finally, when it comes to leisure travel, travellers aged 18 – 30 are also on the top. They make 4.2 leisure trips a year, while travellers aged 31 – 45 make 3.9 leisure trips a year, and 46-65 year old travellers make 3.2 leisure trips a year.
