Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has a very productive August. This month the hotelier opens two hotels in mainland China, thus, increasing the total number of hotels in the Chinese portfolio to 43.
Shangri-La Hotel in Qufu is already open and welcomes its guests. The hotelier describes this accommodation as a piece of international luxury in the city of Qufu. This city is mostly known because of Confucius who lived there, so the hotel’s design is a blend of international and traditional features with mostly contemporary style. The hotel’s façade resembles a Chinese pavilion. The location of main elements and interior design are made in accordance with principles of order developed by Confucius himself. There are other Confucian influences in the design, such as “six arts” (music, rites, mathematics, calligraphy, archery and chariots racing). The hotel has 211 guestrooms, the majority of which feature beautiful views of the Yi River, the Temple of Confucius and the hotel’s garden made in the traditional Chinese style. Dining facilities are represented by food and beverage outlets, Shang Palace that mostly serves regional and Cantonese cuisine, the Lobby Lounge that is a great place to enjoy tea, and Café Kong that serves international food.
The second hotel is Shangri-La Hotel in Shenyang that will be opened in several days. The hotel’s design is a modern version of Imperial Palace that is located in Shenyang. This is the second out of two existing palaces in mainland China with Beijing’s Forbidden City being the first one. This hotel has 424 guestrooms with beautiful views of the city. Top five floors of the building are occupied by Horizon Club, while the 30th floor is the location of Horizon Club Lounge with huge almost floor to ceiling windows. Dining facilities of the restaurant are represented by Shinsen restaurant, Café Liao, and the Summer Palace restaurant.
