Last week Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced three new hotels in the holy city for all Muslims Makkah (also known as Mecca). The internationally famous hotelier will open these hotels according to an agreement with local developer Jabal Omar Development Co. When finished, the three properties will add 1496 guestrooms to the hotelier’s portfolio. The hotels in Makkah will operate under the Westin, Sheraton, and Four Points by Sheraton brands, and are to open in 2015. Starwood is not new on the hotel market of Saudi Arabia as it already operates 10 hotels there. The hotel company has bigger presence only in one country in the Middle East the UAE.
All the hotels will be located in Al Haram a 230,000 sq. m. mixed use development in the city of Makkah. The complex will consist of 38 high-rise buildings, and will be one of the biggest complexes in the world. In total, 26 hotels with more than 11,000 hotel rooms will be present in the Al Haram complex. They will be certainly very handy during the high season, when thousands of pilgrims come to the holy city.
The Sheraton Makkah Hotel will feature 532 guestrooms and suites. The hotel will have two large buffet restaurants and three more food and beverage outlets. All guestrooms will be equipped with the signature Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed. The next hotel, the Four Points by Sheraton Makkah, will have 451 guestrooms, a 92 sq. m. meeting space, a business centre, a lounge, and an all-day dining restaurant. Finally, the Westin Makkah will feature 513 guestrooms and will have a specialty restaurant, two buffet type restaurants, and two lounges.
