Whitbread, leisure hotels giant mostly known for the Premiere Inn brand, has revealed its very ambitious expansion plans concerning the growth of Premiere Inn’s portfolio in the UK. The hotelier plans to increase the total number of Premiere Inn guestrooms in the country to 75,000 by 2018. Currently, the hotelier has 51,671 guestrooms in the portfolio. This is a new goal that has replaced the previous goal of the company to get 65,000 guestrooms in the UK by 2016.
Whitbread is also very interested in developing the network of its Costa coffee cafes. The new goal is to reach the total sales of £2bn by 2018. Last year the chain’s sales reached a serious milestone - £1bn. Such a success of the Costa coffee brand is mostly due to rapid development and popularity in China. Both Costa Coffee and Premiere Inn show stable growth. The latter features the increase in sales of 3.1% in 2012. These two brands by Whitbread keep exploring new markets, often offering budget accommodations and coffee in the same building. According to Whitbread, their expansion plans will create 12,000 additional jobs in the UK within next 5 years.
The development of Whitbread is a true phenomenon. Despite economic downturn, the sales of the company have grown by 11% a year, and the profit has added 12% a year.
