First Autograph Collection Hotel in Germany
Marriott International will open its first hotel in Germany under the Autograph Collection brand. This will be Hotel am Steinplatz in Berlin. The 87-room accommodation is to open already this year.
The hotel is located in a historic building that was first opened as a hotel in 1913. During last several years the hotel was closed because of an extensive renovation. The hotel in Berlin will be the fifteenth Autograph Collection hotel in Europe. The total number of hotels under this brand worldwide is 40. Autograph Collection expands quickly in Europe, adding more carefully selected properties in unique or historic buildings.
The original building of the hotel was finished in 1907. For decades Hotel am Steinplatz has been a popular meeting place for artists, philosophers, writes and other famous or noble people. The original design of the hotel was developed by August Endell, a famous architect and the author of Hackesche Hoefe in Berlin. Even though the hotel has undergone an extensive renovation, its beautiful façade and main elements of the design were kept unchanged. The owner of the building is DG Steinplatz 4 GmbH.
In order to be added to Autograph Collection, a hotel must not only have a great location, but also have a distinctive identity. The collection already includes such iconic hotels as The Algonquin hotel in New York and Boscolo Budapest. The brand was launched in 2010 in an attempt to help independent hotels to get new clients through the well-established sales system of Marriott International. Autograph Collection hotels are targeted at both business and leisure travellers who seek unique experiences.
Hotel am Steinplatz is a boutique hotel with wonderful location close to all major attractions of Berlin. The main shopping street, Kurfurstendamm, is also located within a walking distance. After the renovation the hotel will have 84 spacious and luxuriously decorated guestrooms and three suites. Other facilities include a restaurant, a bar, a lobby lounge, a spa and fitness center, and meeting space.
