Wi-Fi and Free Food are Called Must-Haves by Travellers

News Free Wi-Fi and free food and beverages have topped the list of must-have hotel amenities. An unexpected number of travellers, 34%, say that free Wi-Fi is the #1 factor for them when they choose a hotel to stay. Business travellers are even more certain about the importance of free Wi-Fi – 56% call it their main must-have. Finally, when it comes to mentioning the amenity they want to become a standard, 66% of respondents name free Wi-Fi.

Both business and leisure travellers say they mostly pay attention to free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast and free parking when they search for a hotel. When it comes to paid Wi-Fi, only 11% of travellers say they are willing to pay for it. Modern travellers are frequent users of smartphones, laptops and tablets. These days, more airports offer free Wi-Fi, and travellers want hotels do the same.

The list of most desired modern hotel amenities is topped by coffee machines. Almost a quarter of respondents (23%) say they would prefer them above all. “Smart” hotel rooms controlled by one remote were the second sought after modern amenity, and 20% of respondents chose this answer.

In the list of simple amenities, free bottled water would satisfy 43% of respondents. Only participants from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Brazil would prefer free power adaptors rather than free bottled water. In the section dedicated to food, free breakfasts were selected by most of respondents (31%). Many people were also very positive about happy hours with free food, wine tastings, and cooking in the kitchen.

Finally, visitors of luxury hotels are most concerned about quality fitness and spa centers. Almost 26% of respondents say fitness/spa is their favorite amenity. 21% of travellers say that designer toiletries are the most important amenity for them. The list of the most “outrageous” luxury hotel amenities available for free was topped by a ride in Rolls Royce Phantom. It was selected by 54% of respondents and left far behind other variants, such as a tea sommelier, fragrance butler, private mixologist, and other variants.
