Ashford Castle, which is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful resorts in Ireland, is offered for sale for the price that is 50% lower than the hotel’s original price 5 years ago.
The asking price for the beautiful five-star hotel in Co Mayo is €25 million. Ashford Castle is located in the territory of 365 acres that overlooks Lough Corrib. The closest settlement to the castle is Cong village.
The castle was purchased in 2008 by Tom Barrett from Irish-American investors for €50 million. The money for the deal was mostly provided by Bank of Scotland. The bank was closed last year due to its incredible loan of €30 billion.
Even though the owner of the hotel will be changed, Barrett’s company, Edward Holdings, will keep operating the hotel. It is likely that Ashford Castle will attract attention of potential buyers because the hotel was profitable last year. The castle has the highest room rates in Ireland - between €400 and €950 per night on peak season. The hotel is very popular with tourists from the United States as it is often mentioned in newspapers and magazines. Moreover, the hotel was listed the third best resort in Europe and the best resort in Ireland by Conde Nast Traveller.
Ashford has 77 guestrooms and six suites. Originally built in the 13th century, the castle was rebuilt in the 1800s, and was converted into a hotel in 1939.
