InterContinental Group (IHG) has announced its robust expansion plans concerning Indonesia. According to the hotelier, this is the company’s key market in the region, and so no wonder why IHG wants to strengthen its positions there. The hotelier is particularly interested in midscale segment. Therefore, the new properties launched will be Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express properties. IHG also wants to bring Hotel Indigo brand to the country, increasing the number of brands by IHG to five. Other brands that are already present in Indonesia are Crowne Plaza and InterContinental.
In 2011 the GDP of Indonesia reached USD 1 trillion, pursuing such countries as India and China. The country features the strong growth of 6.5% a year. Despite the global financial crisis, the expected growth of Indonesian economy is 6.3-6.5 per cent.
The first hotel will be Holiday Inn Jakarta Kemayoran. The property is to open in 2013. Other hotels are Holiday Inn Resort in Bali Benoa and Holiday Inn Solo that will open in 2014 and 2016 respectively. The hotelier believes in success of its Holiday Inn brand in the country as according to Business Traveller magazine Holiday Inn is the best Mid-Market Hotel Brand in Asia Pacific and in the World.
Holiday Inn Express is one of the fastest growing brands of the company. Currently there are 2,152 Holiday Inn Express hotels in the world and 451 more properties in the pipeline. In Indonesia IGH is to open Holiday Inn Express hotels in Jakarta Thamrin, Jakarta Pluit, Bali Legian, and Semarang Simpang Lima that are to open in 2013. Such hotels as Holiday Inn Express in Yogyakarta, Surabaya Atria, Jakarta Simatupang and Bogor will start operating in 2014.
