If you visit capital of China these days, we suggest visiting the Opposite House hotel in Beijing that currently hosts the exhibition of the famous sculptor Huang Rui. The installation is titled I-Ching and is devoted to the internationally famous the Book of Changes.
The Book of Changes is one of the oldest Chinese texts and a classic piece of art. Rui started exploring this undying masterpiece back in the 80s of the previous century. Starting from that time he has devoted many of his works to the symbols of the book, trying to interpret these divinatory symbols and show them from completely new visual form.
Rui started his work over the exhibition last December. He invited 64 volunteers to The Opposite House to participate in the installation. These people helped Rui to create a series of shapes and forms that show as many combinations of the symbolic hexagrams from I-Ching as possible. The installation is presented in the hotel according to the collaboration with PZcontemporary and is curated by Martina Ziesse. The sculptor has also added some three-dimensional forms to the exhibition. Currently these are the Chinese characters of “all for one” and “woman”.
