Hotels in Bangkok Suffer From Flood

News All major hotels in Bangkok report they have worsened stats due to the flood, which has not yet reached the city’s center, but remains a sufficient threat.

For example, Shangri-La hotel in Bangkok currently runs with just 30% capacity. This is very small for an 802-guestroom hotel, which usual capacity is around 70-90% all year long.

Not so long ago the country’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has announced a possibility that Bangkok will be flooded as well equals 50%. Some parts of the country like Ayutthaya are already under water during several weeks. Some governments have already warned their citizens. For example, the UAE, Singapore and Hong Kong have issued warnings against nonessential travel. Another fact that restricts people from visiting Bangkok is the closure of domestic Don Mung Airport. Many people have considered this fact as a proof of a real danger, thinking international airport will also get closed soon.

Tourism is very important for Thai economy, so this can become a real trouble for the country. The usual number of arrivals in the country estimates 19 million tourists a year. In 2011 this digit can be up to 1 million less.
