During summer 2010 InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) added to its portfolio 18 hotels in Spain, Portugal, United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey, Russia and France. New hotels have been opened under such brands as Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Inn Express, and Staybridge Suites. This allowed IHG to add over 2,400 rooms in total.
Currently IHG keeps the leading position on the hotel market in terms of speed of growth. The number of new projects of this company is overwhelming – over 1,300 hotels worldwide are planned for opening. Among them is the hotel in Madrid. Located in the city center, Indigo Madrid-Gran Vía, a luxury 89 room hotel, will serve its first guests in the spring 2012. Summer 2012 is scheduled as the date of opening of Indigo de Newcastle. The hotel is organized on the basis of almost abandoned business center. Moreover, IGH plans to increase its international expansion by opening new hotels under the brand name Hotel Indigo – a chain of hotel-boutiques that is currently represented by 36 fully functioning hotels and 57 planned releases. Crowne Plaza brand will add to its portfolio a hotel in Istanbul (Turkey) that will be opened in the beginning of 2011. Crowne Plaza Istanbul-Harbiye is located in the center of the capital of Turkey and offers 285 comfortable rooms and suites. Another hotel by IHG, this time in Edinburg, is scheduled for opening in autumn 2011.
