Mandarin Oriental Wants to Open a Hotel in India

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is a Hong Kong-based hotelier that specializes mostly on upscale accommodations. Recently the company has announced its plans concerning the opening of its first accommodation in India. Mandarin Oriental is about to conclude a deal with Oberoi Realty concerning the managing of a hotel in Mumbai.

At the moment this hotelier is in the process of negotiations with the owner of the future property. The hotel will be located in Worli neighborhood of Mumbai. Another company that is interested in this property is Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide that already manages a hotel in Mumbai – the 269-key Westin Mumbai City Garden.

The property in Worli is a mixed-use development with the total square exceeding 3 million sq. ft. Besides the hotel this development will include 200 branded residences that can also be managed by Mandarin Oriental.

This is not the only project that the hotelier is interested in. Mandarin Oriental seeks other opportunities for managing hotels in India. Hotels in New Delhi and Mumbai are among the priority markets for the company.
