Mardan Palace hotel in Antalya is the most expensive resort in Europe in terms of building costs. The 546-key accommodation was opened last year and its building costs estimated US $1.4 billion. Currently the hotel in Turkey uses electrical generators as it has been powered off by the local power company. The total sum of the unpaid bills reaches US $3 million.
The power company, Akedas, gave the hotel 3 weeks for paying the debt or it would start legal proceedings against the company. The hotel’s representatives state the property uses generators, but don’t provide any other details.
Mardan Palace is one of the biggest resorts in the Mediterranean. On the territory of the hotel are located 10 restaurants and the largest swimming pool in the region, so there’s no wonder that monthly bill for utilities is around US $300,000 per month. Mardan Palace will also soon open a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
According Cumhur Lopez, the general manager of the hotel, the company waits till the end of the year to pay for the bills in order to balance the expenses.
