Marriott International, a famous hotelier, has recently launched new hotel brand – Edition hotels. The first property under this brand name will be opened within several weeks in Hawaii. Now Marriott acquires the historic Berners Hotel in London in order to convert it into The London Edition. Berners Hotel will be closed for next two years to undergo a complete renovation.
This iconic hotel in London is closed since 2006. Finally, in August 2010, the hotel with a 175-year history has been offered for sale. The exact sum of the deal is not disclosed, but the analysts tell it may reach US $100 million or more. Marriott representatives state they are delighted with the purchase and consider this property an ideal hotel for the London Edition due to its advantageous location, long respected history and beautiful facade.
The Edition brand is a new chain of boutique-hotels created by Marriott in collaboration with Ian Schrager. The first property, the Hawaii Edition, will be launched in the nearest future. The second hotel by this brand will be The Istanbul Edition (opens in the beginning of 2011). Marriott has also purchased Seville hotel in Miami Beach in order to convert it into the hotel under this new brand.
