Intercontinental Hotel Group has announced its plans to launch a unique technology at Holiday Inns hotels. The technology will permit potential guests to use their mobile phones to check in. The technology already works at hotels in Australia, where people can make reservations and unlock their rooms without using the check-in desk.
Bryson Koehler, IHG executive, emphasizes the company's striving to make every guest feel comfortable at its hotels. The trial is scheduled to begin next month. The participants of the experiment will be supposed to download applications to their phones, make an email confirmation and match it to a sensor on the door. Guests will receive unique encrypted audio codes on their phones. Although the technology will be first applied to smart phones, it is tailored for any type of mobile communication device.
The trial will take place at the in hotels in Houston and Chicago: in Holiday Inn Express Houston Downtown Convention Center and Holiday Inn Chicago O'Hare Rosemont, US, and it will last for two to three months.
