1. The total length of roads in Lithuania is 21 300 km, and more than a half of the roads is paved. Car drivers are completely free to use absolutely all roads, the toll should be paid by buses and trucks only.
2. Almost all parking lots located in the city centers are paid ones. Payment must be made only during the period from 8:00 to 20:00 from Monday to Saturday, and on Sunday many parking lots are free to use.
3. The cost of one hour of parking may vary from 1 to 6 litai, depending on the type of parking. In Vilnius, parking lots marked with blue color are the most expensive, and at red parking lots the prices are usually almost twice lower. Yellow and green parking lots are known as the cheapest ones.

When looking for an exotic car (cabriolet, minivan or limousine), we advise to check in the rental offices located at airports, as they usually provide much wider choice comparing to offices in urban areas.
Upon receipt of invoices, bills and documents for your car at the rental location, please compare the obtained data with your voucher. Quite often, employees of rental offices in Lithuania try to add optional charges or services without informing customers.
It is very important to pick up your car at the rental office in Lithuania in a correct way. Prior to leaving the office, carefully inspect the car for various defects, and ensure that all the discovered defects are mentioned in your rental documents. In case of a non-compliance found, place a demand for correction to the rental officer.
4. Literally all parking lots are equipped with parking machines, through which the payments are made. Motorists should stock up on plenty coins of small denominations as the machines do not give change and may only accept 50 cent coins.
5. The parking machines work just like in other European countries. You need to drop the right amount of coins into the machine, take the voucher and place it in a prominent place behind the windshield. Don’t forget to pick up the car from the parking lot in time.
6. In Lithuania, there are the following speed limits: in cities the speed limit is 50 km/h, in the country it’s 90 km/h, on highways the speed limit is 110 km/h, and on autobahns the speed limit is 130 km/h.
7. In winter, there may be other speed limits for speed roads. Of course, drivers will be alerted of the changes. Thus, during the period from early November to late March, it is possible to move on roads at a speed of 100 km/h on highways, and at a speed of 110 km/h on autobahns.
8. The permitted blood alcohol content for drivers is 0.4 ppm. If the blood alcohol content ranges from 0.41 to 1.5 ppm, the driver will have to pay a fine of 1,000 - 1,500 litai. The suspension of the driving license for a period of 12 to 18 months is a typical additional punishment in that case.
9. Do not refuse to take the breath test. In that case the result is automatically recognized as unsatisfactory and the driver will be fined 2,000 - 3,000 litai. The same fine is issued if the blood alcohol content is greater than 1.5 ppm. In this case, an additional punishment includes suspension of the driving license for a period of 2 to 3 years.
10. Drivers with experience of less than two years should be especially careful when consuming alcoholic beverages. For them, the allowable blood alcohol content is only 0.2 ppm. Even a slight excess of the norm will result in a fine of 800 - 1000 litai.
