12. Parking machines are worth a separate mentioning. They are usually marked with bright colored markers with «PAY HERE» inscription. Prior to parking, the driver must determine, for how long he plans to leave his car, and then drop the appropriate amount of coins into the machine and get a check. The payment receipt must be placed in a prominent place under the windshield of the car, so that the parking lot’s staff can check your parking period.
13. Normally, one hour of paid parking services costs approximately 0.5 euro. The closer the car park is located to the city center and major tourist attractions, the higher its service costs are. On Sundays and on public holidays, it is possible to use services of most municipal parking lots for free.
14. Control over parking rules is carried out by municipal workers. If you leave the car in the wrong place or fail to return for the car in time, you are likely to be fined. The fine must be paid within two weeks.
Hints on Car Hire in Cyprus
When choosing a car for your Cyprus trip, don’t forget to check and compare the franchise amount (indicated in the rental conditions) for all cars considered in your selection. 16. The cost of fuel is the same at all petrol stations. A liter of petrol of Super and Unleaded categories will cost you approximately 1.2 euro. Many large petrol stations are self-service ones, so the payment must be done through the machine.
17. Before inserting the gun into the tank, you need to come to one of payment machines and insert the required amount of money. It is important to note that paper money should be inserted in a certain way, otherwise they will be simply not accepted. As a rule, each machine has a detailed instruction with all steps described one by one.
18. Once you insert paper money, the scoreboard with the «AMOUNT» mark will display the deposited amount. Only after this you should press the button with the number of the desired petrol pump. Once the button starts flashing, you can return to the column and fill the tank.
20. Local motorists are not distinguished by strict following of traffic regulations. Foreign guests must always be attentive and control the situation on the road. They should also use horn to warn other drivers of the upcoming maneuver. It is worth remembering that in the territory of residential areas it is allowed to use sound signals from 6:00 to 21:00.
21. According to local regulations, the car must always have two emergency stop signs. In case of a traffic accident one sign must set on the front and the other one behind the car.
22. Many local traffic regulations may be rather unusual to foreign visitors. For example, if there are children under 16 in the vehicle, none of passengers is allowed to smoke in the cabin. The penalty for violation of this rule is approximately 100 euro.
