Expo Dubai 2020 Postponed
Previously, we wrote about Expo 2020 that was going to take place in Dubai. This is an international event that traditionally attracts many vendors from all over the world and at least one million guests. Dubai was preparing for the exposition for a long time and was going to offer something grandiose and truly unforgettable. Hotels in Dubai already had increased bookings for the time of the Expo. Unfortunately, it is impossible to have the event of this scale at the moment. With regret, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) decided to postpone Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Having measured all risks for visitors and exhibitors of such a large event, members of BIE decided to make a vote regarding the date of Expo 2020. Two-thirds of the members agreed to postpone the next Word Expo by one year. The mega event is sure to be a crowded place with numerous visitors from all over the world, and this might be dangerous in the pandemic world.
Expo 2020 Dubai will start on October 1, 2021, and run until March 31, 2022. BIE hopes that more than a year should be enough for all participants to avoid the potential risks associated with COVID-19. It will help the World Expo to find solutions and address the challenge, offering even a greater show that will be safe and exciting for everyone. In short, if you had a hotel in Dubai booked for the Expo, it is time to adjust your booking.
The Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum welcomed BIE’s decision. He agreed to postpone the large-scale event for one year and expressed his hope that Dubai would shape the post-pandemic world and “capture the world’s imagination” at the right time. The Government of the UAE proposed to delay the event for one year in April as the country’s travel restrictions might not be completely lifted in time for the Expo.
The vote for the new date of Expo 2020 Dubai started on 29 April. Even though it officially ends on 29 May, two-thirds of the members have already voted. The new date will be formally approved at the end of this month. The theme of the next World Expo is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. Dubai originally thought of this event as a unique platform to share solutions and experience in building a better world. Expo 2020 Dubai will be the first World Expo ever held in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia region. Moreover, Dubai will host the largest event that has ever been organized in the Arab world, so we are all expecting to see something grandiose and unique.
