Vietnam Welcomed 8.5 Million Tourists in the First Half of 2019

News Vietnam has been an emerging destination in recent years, and here is one more proof of the growing popularity. Within the first six months of 2019, the number of international arrivals reached 8.48 million. During the first half of this year, the South Asian country welcomed 7.5% more guests than over the same period a year ago.

In June alone, 1.18 million tourists visited Vietnam. This is only slightly more than a year ago (+0.2%). Naturally, hotels in Hanoi get the biggest share of visitors, but other destinations in the country also post positive results. By the way, all main source markets for the tourism industry of Vietnam posted growth during the same period. Such countries as Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines posted double-digit growth. The following source markets had smaller growth that was, however, still very notable: Italy, Japan, Malaysia, USA, Norway, and Denmark.

What about domestic tourists? They were also active during the first six months of 2019 and made roughly 45.5 million trips. The increase in spending is also hard not to notice – the total tourism receipt reached US$14.85 over the same period, marking an increase of 8.4% compared to the same period of 2018.

Naturally, the recent achievements of Vietnam attract numerous hotel companies to the country. For example, Centara Hotels & Resorts plans to open as many as 20 new hotels in Vietnam within just five years. The company names hotels in Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong, and Hanoi among its key priorities. Such emerging destinations as Danang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Hoi An, and Cam Ranh also attract the hotelier. Southern coastal areas such as Mui Ne, Vung Tau, and Ho Tram also have a potential in the opinion of the hotelier as there is an airport under construction in this region. By the way, Centara already has a successfully operating hotel in Danang.

Centara will bring all the six brands that it has to the country, including Centara, Centara Grand, Centara Boutique Collection, Centra by Centara, Centara Residences & Suites, and its newest brand COSI. With an easier visa obtaining process and great improvements in transportation and connection to other countries, Vietnam has everything to become a new boom destination in Asia. Last year, Vietnam already greeted a record number of guests – 15.5 million. Judging by the results of the first six months of 2019, the country can exceed that level and set a new all-time high number of arrivals.
