Family travel is essential, and so millions of parents around the world seek for a suitable resort where they and their little ones can relax and spend a holiday. However, the primary purpose of many vacations relaxation is not something that parents can achieve even if they book a good hotel in Mallorca, Porto or other popular destination. A new survey of parents in the UK revealed that nearly half of vacationers (44%) consider personal relaxation the most complicated thing to receive during a family holiday.
Almost three-quarters of respondents (71%) agree that travel becomes a lot more enjoyable only when kids reach a certain age. Most agree that this age starts from 5 years old (25%). Some parents (20% and 19%) say that family holidays become more enjoyable when kids reach four and three. Why are family vacations important? More than half of parents (55%) say this is one more way to bond with their kids. For more than a third of respondents (33%) family travel is a great way to make their kids learn about new cultures, and 26% of Britons like family vacations because they help to experience new things together.
When naming major challenges that parents face during family vacations, the answer is not surprising. Almost a half (44%) of parents say it is hard for them to find time for personal relaxation. For 20% of parents, family travel planning is a major source of stress. Family travelers want to have as smooth and trouble-free experience as possible. Naturally, the choice of a travel destination is also different when it comes to family holidays. Half of the young families said they had to compromise on their ideal travel destination in favor of more suitable ones. More than a third of respondents (34%) think that beach holidays are more suitable for families with children rather than city breaks.
Safety is another crucial factor for family holidays. 70% of respondents from the UK say that safety is one of the key features that they take into consideration. Budget-friendly family holidays are also a myth it seems. A least, 68% of respondents say they have to increase their original budget and pay more than expected for a family friendly hotel.
Finally, British parents revealed the services and experiences that they appreciate the most when on a family vacation. Special menus for children make 33% of parents happier. Evening entertainment and activity clubs attract 32% and 30% of respondents respectively. Airport pick-up service appeals to 16% of parents, and 15% of parents care about on-site shops.
