More Chinese Travelers Visit Europe During the Lunar New Year

News The Lunar New Year is traditionally the time when many Chinese want to travel to meet their family or to enjoy a fabulous vacation abroad. This week (February 4 – 10), more travelers from China than expected are heading to Europe. So, hotels in Paris, Rome, London, and other gateway European cities are definitely to have a strong week.

Bookings only prove the growing popularity – they are 9.2% higher than a year ago. Numerous destinations across the European Union benefit from this growing popularity. While tourism is growing around the world, the EU is still above the global average. According to the information published by ForwardKeys, current bookings as 0.2% ahead of the worldwide average results.

Even though the Chinese economy is said to slow down and Brexit makes it unclear whether it is a good time to visit the EU, Chinese travelers do not seem to be much affected by the news. Early visitors started appearing in cities across the European Union two weeks before the Golden Week. There are two main types of Chinese travelers. Travelers in the first group celebrate the Lunar New Year by traveling to Europe and enjoying an extended stay there. The second group prefers to make a shorter journey during the off-peak time and then return to China for the main celebrations.

This year, Chinese travelers are particularly interested in northern regions of the EU. These destinations show the growth in bookings of 19%. The central and eastern parts of the EU, in their turn, are lagging behind. The increase in bookings is only 3.7% in this region. If taking into consideration the European Union without the UK, the rise in bookings estimates 8.1%.

Europe makes continuous efforts to draw the attraction of Chinese travelers. The European Travel Commission regularly promotes travel to the region on the rapidly developing Chinese market. Chinese tourists are also interested in visiting Europe. The EU is always at the top of the most sought-after destinations for long-haul travel. The EU has made impressive efforts to attract more Chinese tourists and positive results are easy to notice. Even such challenges as slowing Chinese economy and Brexit tensions do not stop travelers from visiting the EU and celebrating Chinese New Year there.
