India is strengthening its positions as a popular medical tourism destination. Not only hotels in Mumbai but also many accommodations in other cities greet tourists from all over the world who arrive to enjoy ancient medical treatments. Ayurveda, Panchakarma, Yoga, and other rejuvenation therapies don’t lose their popularity.
India’s Ministry of Tourism is aware of the situation and wants to promote medical tourism in the country in order to attract more tourists. Together with the Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs), the ministry announced special medical visas that are easier to obtain than regular ones. In 2016 and 2017, more than 4 million visitors a year received these visas. The growth after the visas launch estimated 15.9%.
Price is one more crucial advantage of medicine in India. While many Indian medical facilities strive for the best and offer services of experienced health care professionals, their price remains relatively low. Even when it comes to traditional healthcare therapies, India has much to offer to its guests. Add here quality nursing and it becomes understandable why more and more people prefer Indian medicine.
The country’s ministry of tourism doesn’t plan to stop at the achieved level and has new ideas to promote medical tourism in India. In the future, it will organize seminars and medical tourism advertising campaigns. The titles of some programs have already been revealed: Road Shows, Know India, and events under the global Incredible India campaign. The ministry will give away CDs, brochures, and other materials on Medical & Health Tourism. It also filmed a special film about medical tourism in India for Asia and the Middle East. Some promotional activities for these markets have already been launched on different platforms.
The newly launched National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board will mostly focus on the adoption and expansion of medical facilities that accept tourists. Moreover, India’s Healthcare Portal offers a comprehensive guide on how to get medical help in top institutions of the country, foreign languages spoken, and other useful information. Some changes concerned the medical tourism e-visa as well. This is a simplified visa for medical tourists. Officially named Medical and Medical attendant visa, it now allows its holder to stay in the country for a longer period of time of up to six months.
