Holidays in England are on a Rise

News Summer is over, and so it is time to count revenues and compare the results of 2018 to previous years. Even now, with preliminary data, it is clear that the summer school holiday season was successful for hotels and accommodation providers in England. Not only hotels in London but also hotels in other British cities benefited from the increased number of guests.

According to the latest report, “Tourism Business Performance and Confidence Monitor”, published by VisitEngland, half of 300 respondents stated they had served more visitors from the middle of July to the end of August than during the same period in 2017.

The report also asked participants to forecast their expected performance starting from the end of August and until the end of October. Participants were mostly optimistic about their business – 92% of respondents say they are confident about their performance during the indicated period of time. Fewer participants (67%) say they already have good or excellent advance bookings until the end of October.

Having analyzed bookings, VisitEngland has detected that bookings increase thanks to both international and domestic visitors. More than a half of the hotels participating in the survey (525) are positive about their business and think 2018 will be a better year for them than 2017. For VisitEngland, it is delightful to see how the region had strong summer bookings and how the remainder of the year looks promising for the hospitality industry. Not only hotels but also attractions across England experienced an increased number of guests.

The survey also featured 250 visitor attractions in England that also answered questions about their performance. As many as 54% of respondents said they served more visitors than in 2017. There is other strong evidence of a successful summer for the hospitality industry of England. For example, more than 7 million Brits (7.3 million to be exact) decided to take a short holiday in the UK during the bank holiday weekend in August. This helped the economy of the country to get a fantastic sum £1.75 billion.

This year has a potential of hitting the record in terms of domestic travel. During the first five months of 2018, Brits achieved a solid result of 16.2 million holiday trips in England. This result is on par with the record level of 2009, so this year might become a new milestone for the hospitality industry of the country.
