Ras Al Khaimah hotels definitely enjoy higher profits these days as the emirate’s occupancy keeps rising. According to the newest data published by Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), in Q1 2018 the average occupancy of local hotels was 79.4%, which is 4% higher than during Q1 2017. This was achieved mostly thanks to the growing number of visitors to the emirate as it currently enjoys the position of the fastest growing tourism destination in the region.
The total number of visitors grew by 12% during the Q1 when compared to Q1 2017. International markets are the main source for such an increase. International visitors also make up the majority of all tourists who visit Ras Al Khaimah they account for as many as 70%. The emirate’s hotels greatly benefited from the UK tourists in Q1 2018 as the year-on-year growth of this group estimated 18%. The total increase in the number of international visitors during the given period is 8.4%. That is significantly more than it is forecasted in the global tourism growth report by UNWTO 4%.
Ras Al Khaimah hotels enjoy not only more visitors but also longer stays. The average length of stay added 4.5% in Q1 2018 and reached 3.7 days. As demand for hotels in the emirate is rising, this gives more opportunities for investors and the hospitality industry in general. By the end of 2020, the resort portfolio of the emirate will almost double and will reach 10,000 from the current 5400 rooms. The already confirmed resorts in the region include the Rayhan Rotana hotel in Khuzam, the Anantara Resort at Mina Al Arab, Park Inn Rezidor hotel in Al Marjan Island and Avani Resort at the same island, and Marriott Rak Beach hotel in Al Ma’areedh.
The island of Al Marjan is one of the most actively developing resort destinations in Ras Al Khaimah. At least 15 new resorts will appear on the island until 2025. Of course, these are not all notable projects in the emirate. RAKTDA is also in the process of developing a luxury camp hotel in Jebel Jais. This is going to be a unique complex for everyone keen on eco-tourism.
New hotels are not the only points of attraction for tourists in Ras Al Khaimah. Earlier this year, one of the major attractions in the emirate was finally open. Jebel Jais Flight, the longest zipline in the world, is not completely open yet as only phase one is in operation at the moment, but the zipline has already welcomed more than 5,000 visitors. Phase two is set to open later this year. It will add two new cable roads, increasing the processing power of the zipline to up to 200,000 people a year. It is a wonderful place to hide from the heat as the temperature at Jebel Jais is 10 degrees below the sea level.
