Marriott Encourages Its Guests to Consume Less Plastic

News Marriott International has a range of initiatives aimed at reducing the impact of hotels on the environment. This time, the company’s brand, Element Hotels, launched a new program together with S’well that specializes in attractive looking reusable hydration options. Together, the companies will encourage travelers to use single-use plastic bottles less frequently in favor of reusable options and this way care about the environment and their health.

S’well offers stylish and reusable bottles that come in a number of colors and finishes. They will help customers to stay hydrated while on the go and consume less plastic when either at home or in a foreign country. Each guestroom will have these bottles available for purchase. In addition, customers can buy these bottles at Restore shops available at Element Hotels. S’well also sells their bottles online and in many popular stores. Once they own the bottle, guests can conveniently fill it with fresh filtered water from sprouts present in all guest rooms.

At the moment, the partnership between S’well and Element Hotels is on a test run at 26 Element Hotels. Marriott also plans to add S’well bottles to Moxy Hotels, Aloft Hotels, and AC Hotels by Marriott. Starting from January 2018, as many as 150 hotels will participate in the new program. The hotelier is very enthusiastic about the partnership and hopes that customers will like a new way to stay hydrated without a need in plastic bottles. It is not only a sustainable but also a health-conscious way to quench thirst, so Marriott hopes that its customers will support the initiative.

According to the hotelier’s spokesman, they are excited to offer something new and trendy for customers, and easy access to S’well bottles might particularly appeal to younger customers interested in trends. This is not the only initiative by Marriott International as the company works in different areas in order to reduce its footprint on the ecology of the regions where it operates.

The hotel company has its global 2025 Sustainability and Social Impact program that targets different aspects of environment-friendly initiatives. The goals include targeting climate-related risks, using sustainable sources of food, the reduced environmental impact of hotels, and operation of new sustainable hotels. Marriott also has its own social impact platform named Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction that works all countries where the hotelier has business.
