According to the preliminary data for May published by STR Global, the last month was profitable for hotels in Berlin. They managed to improve all main metrics and increase RevPAR by 8.1%.
The strong performance became possible due to a significant growth of occupancy. Berlin hotels managed to add another 2.1% to occupancy to the total of 81.4%. The average daily rate added 5.8% to 105.41 euro. Consequently, revenue per available room (RevPAR) grew by 8.1% to 85.79 euro. The hotel supply on the market was growing and estimated +1.0% in May, but it was overcome by the growing demand of 3.1%.
The May occupancy is the second highest recorded occupancy for this month. According to experts, such a high occupancy was the result of several events that took place in the city. These are Re:Publica conference dedicated to digital culture (May 8-10), DFB-Pokal (the final football game, May 27), and faith festival Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag that took place in the city on May 24-28. Because of these events, during 11 days hotels in Berlin had the occupancy of 90% or higher.
