Hilton has signed a milestone deal with Melwa Hotels and Resorts Private Limited. Together, the companies will open 6 Hilton hotels in Sri Lanka. These will be three hotels under the Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand and three more DoubleTree by Hilton properties. The deal also marks the debut of the DoubleTree brand in Sri Lanka. By signing this deal, Hilton has significantly increased their presence on the island and its most popular resort destinations. The agreement also signifies the importance of Asia Pacific for the famous hotelier.
The new hotels will start operating in 2020-2021. These will be Hilton Kosgoda Resort, Hilton Kandy Resort, Hilton Resort & Spa in Yala, DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Colombo International Airport, DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Negombo, and DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Nuwara-Eliya.
As tourism to the exotic island keeps growing, it’s a strategic decision to open hotels in the most popular tourist areas of Yala, Kandy, Colombo, Kosgoda, Negombo, and Nurawa-Eliya. The island is known for its beautiful nature and rich cultural heritage, so tourism is considered the main force of the country’s economic growth. In 2015, Sri Lanka was mentioned in the list of “Top 10 Coolest Countries” to visit by Forbes. Last year was an exceptionally good one for the tourism industry of the country the number of international arrivals set up a new record of more than 2 million. That is 14% more than a year ago. The government also makes efforts in helping the industry by developing infrastructure, such as expanding the networks of national roads.
