Robert De Niro to Open a Hotel in London

Oscar winning actor Robert De Niro decided to try something new and step into hotel business. The celebrity actor who starred in more than 100 movies is to open a boutique hotel in Covent Garden in London. The idea to open a hotel in London came after success of the Greenwich hotel in New York.

The London project is a collaboration between De Niro, Capital & Countries Properties (Capco) and BD Hotels. It is known that the new hotel will be a rebranded 83-guestroom property and will be called The Wellington Hotel. The same team was working over The Greenwich Hotel in New York that is popular among celebrities and famous for its luxury design. De Niro also owns the Nobu Hotel in Manila, Philippines.

The London property will have two restaurants, a spa, a café and a member’s club. The hotel is built around a conservatory courtyard and occupies a block off six adjacent buildings. Designers say they will keep the atmosphere of the district and rich heritage of the building in design of the new hotel. If Westminster City Council approves the project, the development will start in 2017, and the hotel will greet its first guests in 2019. Capco has been the owner of the building last ten years. As the area is developing quickly and new up-market retailers and restaurants come to Covent Garden, the company decided to rebrand the existing hotel and turn it into luxury accommodation.
