Dubai is a well-known tourist destination, and many hotel companies try to improve their presence on such a popular market. With mega events like 2020 Dubai World Expo and 2022 Fifa World Cup that will take place in Qatar, many destinations like Al Habtoor City, Dubailand, or Bluewaters Island experience significant increase of hotel supply. Naturally, the number of tourists attending these destinations is also expected to grow in coming years.
Big hotel companies are also aware of this fact, and so they plan to increase their presence in the region. For example, Starwood Hotels and Resorts plans to double its portfolio in the Middle East in just five years. The company will to debut on Dubai market with such brands as St. Regis and W Hotels by the end of this year. Westin will launch three new hotels in Al Habtoor City, which is known as the biggest hospital and residential complex under construction in the world.
Local hotel companies also support the trend. Dubai-based Jumeirah Group is to open 2 properties in Dubai by 2017 the Jumeirah Al Naseem at Medinat Jumeirah and Venu at the Bluewaters Island. The latter is the first property under the new lifestyle brand. The hotel will offer 300 guestrooms and will be located on the mixed-use island famous for the largest Ferris wheel in the world.
