The Bangkok headquartered hotelier Minor Hotel Group will soon mark its presence on two new continents by acquiring six hotels in Europe and South America. Thanks to this deal, the hotel company will get additional 1,600 guestrooms in Portugal and Brazil. In addition to that, the hotelier will gain rights for the Tivoli Hotels & Resorts brand that has properties in Brazil. The total sum of the deal estimates US$190 million. Minor chose Brazil and Portugal as starting points for its future expansion deeper into South America and Europe.
In Portugal, the hotelier acquires four Tivoli hotels. Three hotels are located in the capital, and there is one more hotel in Algarve. In Brazil, the hotelier will operate two properties, one hotel in Sao Paolo and one more property close to Salvador in Bahia. Together with the newly acquired hotels, the portfolio of Minor Hotel Group (MHG) includes as many as 125 hotels in 21 countries with 16,000 guestrooms in total.
The Portuguese properties include the 306-guestroom hotel Tivoli Lisboa, the 196-guestroom Tivoli Marina Portimao, the 293-guestroom Tivoli Carvoeiro, and the 383-guestroom Tivoli Marina Vilamoura. It is already known that the hotels will keep operating under Tivoli and Tivoli Collection brands.
