Accor, a famous European hotelier, now has a 35% stake in the boutique hotel brand called Mama Shelter. The brand features electric modern design and support for new technologies, so it may attract travellers who are open to everything new and are tired of standard big chain hotels. Mama Shelter currently has only several properties operating under its brand. These are mostly hotels in France in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Bordeaux. The company also has a hotel in Istanbul, Turkey.
Both Accor and Mama Shelter do not disclose any details regarding the deal. There is only official news release that states the new partnership will help Mama Shelter develop faster as the company will gain access to powerful development and distribution network of Accor. That will certainly help to add more properties to the brand portfolio much faster. Mama Shelter will debut in America already in February 2015, when the company will open a hotel in Los Angeles. New Mama Shelter hotels are also set to open in Lille and Paris (France), as well as in such gateway cities as Seoul, Zurich, New York, Amsterdam, London, Barcelona and Mexico City. In total, the hotel brand plans to open around 20 hotels around the world within next five years.
Accor, in its turn, will diversify its portfolio and add new unusual hotel chain that offers “urban retreats” where guests can feel home atmosphere and cordial attitude.
