Croatia is currently one of hottest EU countries for hotel investors. Currently, the country is among leaders in terms of hotel rooms in the pipeline with 12 large projects to be opened in future.
The Adriatic island of Brac attracts major share of investments as this place has been chosen home for a 400 million euro project. This is going to be a pioneer health tourism project in the country that will also help to extend the season. The complex will include several hospitals, hotels, and even an airport! Health tourism is not yet developed in the country, and Brac with its currently non-operating hotel may be a good place to start. The ‘Thalassotheriapie’ hotel in Opatija will become the flagship complex in the project.
The new hotel complex in Split is one of largest projects to be opened in the country. The area near shore will house several hotels, other new buildings and even a congress center. One of developers, Valamar Hotel Group, will invest approximately 60 million euro within next year and a half, and will open the President Hotel (Babin Kuk/Dubrovnik). The British company EMAC is interested in developing green tourism in Croatia, particularly in Istria and the Peljesac peninsula.
Rather weak transport infrastructure is one of main problems for hotel developers, but many European companies are interested in developing modern transport routes. For example, the Germany ECA (European Coastal Airlines) has plans to organize a series of water plane routes to several Adriatic islands.
