According to the new report by SDL, these days as many as 80% of travellers prefer making arrangements online. The report “The Modern Traveler: A Look at Customer Engagement in the Travel Industry” is based on opinions of over 4,000 people surveyed. Residents of Australia, the UK, and the US participated in the survey.
Online booking becomes more popular with travelers. Nearly 80% of respondents state they make hotel reservations online. Booking in person, consequently, becomes less popular. The trend is most visible in the US. Here only 5% of travelers still book hotels in person. Vast majority of travelers (84%) agree that positive experience or feedback is very important to them when making a booking decision. Word of mouth becomes crucial in such a situation.
Mobile apps have also become more popular. Approximately 60% of respondents mention they use mobile apps during their travel. The United States is again the leader. Here as 75% of travelers use mobile applications when they’re away from home. Australia with 65% occupies the second place, and only 50% of British travelers use mobile apps on holiday or vacation.
Finally, respondents agree that email is still the most important and convenient way of receiving notifications, reminders, check-in and out times, confirmations, etc. More than 83% of the survey respondents say they wish to receive such emails, and only 9% state they do not want to get email at all.
