The latest data published by Tophotelprojects contains very interesting information about Indonesia. Thanks to several factors, such as new airplane routes, development of new additional markets and improvement of business climate will have a positive effect on Indonesia, and so as many as 700-800 new hotels may appear in the country within next 10 years. They will add 100,000 guestrooms to the country’s hotel market.
New 700-800 hotels are a big raise comparing to the current state of the industry. In 2012, the total number of hotels in the country was around 1600 with the total number of guestrooms nearly 156,000. That is 9% more than in 2011. Even though last year the country was visited by just eight million travellers, the occupancy of local hotels was rather high throughout the year 53%. Occupancy of Jakarta and Bali was somewhat higher 61% and 57% respectively. There are, certainly, some outsiders. For example, in 2012 occupancy of hotels in Riau never exceeded 50%.
When it comes to describing most popular hotel chains in Indonesia, Accor is a definite leader with the portfolio of 11,000 guestrooms in 2012. The second place is occupied by Aston International (Hawaii) that has over 6,000 guestrooms in Indonesia. Finally, the third place is occupied by a local company - Santika Hotels & Resorts (5,600 guestrooms). Other internationally famous hotel companies present on Indonesian hotel market are Starwood (2,700 guestrooms), IHG (1,995 guestrooms), Hyatt (1,971 guestrooms), and others.
