Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotel Group Co., one of the biggest Chinese hotel chains, has announced the launch of a brand new hotel brand targeted at mid-class visitors. The Shanghai-headquartered giant also revealed the name of the new brand MetroPolo.
According to the comment of Christopher Sheldon, executive Vice President of Jinjiang Metropolo Management Co, they plan to develop the new brand actively, and want to have the first Metropolo hotel operating already in 2013. The next year will be definitely a huge milestone for the young hotel brand as Jin Jiang plans to open as many as 28 hotels by MetroPolo in 2014. Such a quick expansion of the brand’s portfolio is possible thanks to one thing a recent acquisition of 21 Smart Hotels in China. Jin Jiang bought those hotels from Tianjin Huasheng Tourism Equity Investment Partners and China Wallink Holding for US$115 million.
Jin Jiang has very ambitious plans regarding the new brand. In just three years, the company wants MetroPolo hotels to be present in 100 key cities of the country, including first tier and secondary cities! In opinion of Sheldon, currently the 5-star market of China is overcrowded and the same applies to budget segment. Midmarket is the only segment with lots of opportunities, and Jin Jiang is not going to miss them.
