Gritti Palace is a building with rich history. Built in the 15th century, in 1475 the palace belonged to the Pisani family. Later, in 1525, Gritti Palace was the residence of Andrea Gritti, doge of Venice. The palace became a hotel in 1895.
The restoration works were made by the local engineering firm Veniceplan Ingegneria Srl. All works were negotiated with the Regional Board of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Environmental Conservation of Venice and Lagoon because of the hotel’s historical status. It is reported that after the renovation the building has a modern engineering system that will protect Gritti Palace is case of tides. The interior was developed by Donghia Associates. The main aim of designers was to restore antique furniture. The 61 guestrooms and 21 suites of the hotel have been also decorated with handmade furnishings. The hotel’s design is mostly made in rich colours, and has such well-known items as rare fabrics by Rubelli, chandeliers made of Murano glass, and Venetian tapestries.
Specially for VIP guests, there is the luxurious duplex Redentore Terrazza suite that has not only two beautifully decorated rooms (a bedroom and a living room), but also a reception room, a special dining area, and a large terrace on the roof of the building with a private spa, pool, and entertainment space.
Dining facilities are represented by Club del Doge Restaurant and Bar Longhi. The territory of the hotel also includes The Gritti Epicurean School, Blu Mediterraneo Spa, the Explorer’s Library, and other interesting places.
