Development Counsellors International asked 187 meeting planners about their preferable destinations for business meetings. The information received from the survey is present in the latest report of the company. According to it, London, Barcelona, Paris, Hong Kong and Singapore have been called the most popular destinations for international meetings.
The survey titled “Winning strategies in Destination Marketing” also contains some useful data that may be interesting for both hoteliers and business travellers. When choosing an international meeting destination, meeting planners mostly rely on meeting with destination representatives (58%), seek advice from colleagues (55%), or make decisions based on personal experience (53%). Almost 57% of respondents also get information from convention bureaus. Email remains the preferred method of communication with convention bureau staff (67%). Phone calls are the second most popular method.
When selecting a new destination, meeting planners prefer to get information at trade shows and educational workshops. These activities imply meeting face-to-face, and this is valued high by organizers of business meetings. It is also hard to overestimate the growing importance of online advertising. Almost 73% of respondents call it the most effective form of advertising. Despite the number, 69% of respondents say they trust printed advertisements more. An interesting fact – business people are not much influenced by social media. Only 2% of people say that social media has impact on their decision making process.
