Shangri-La Hotels Wants to Open a New Hotel in Singapore

Shangri-La plans to open its second Traders hotel in Singapore. The company may open a new hotel in Orchard Gateway – a large mixed use development that is being built by United Engineers Limited and Great Eastern Holdings. The hotel may be opened in 2013.

The complex is located at 277 Orchard Road. This place once has stored a large shopping center and Hotel Phoenix. The large 20-storey building is the result of the design developed by Tange Associates. It will contain a large hotel with 512 guestrooms and a large retail space of 16,722 sq. m. There is also a large 11-storey building with offices and business facilities nearby. The two buildings will be connected by a beautiful glass bridge.

The press has already contacted Shangri-La concerning the possibility of opening the 4-star Traders Hotel in the new mixed use development. However, the hotelier has provided no news about it. According to the company’s spokesman, they cannot reveal any information about that project at the moment. The hotelier will issue a press release concerning that project a bit later.

Orchard Road is a quickly developing region of Singapore. Near the building site of Orchard Gateway are built several houses that will become the offices of the Singapore Tourism Visitor Centre. All visitors of Orchard Gateway will also have a convenient access to Discovery Walk – a modern passageway that is home to numerous cafes and restaurants, many of which work round the clock.
