Cliveden House Hotel, a true gem in the former collection of von Essen hotels, is sold to British billionaire brothers Ian and Richard Livingstone. The sum of the deal for the luxurious hotel in Taplow, England, is not disclosed. Together with manor the British duo get 376 acre (152 hectare) of land.
The amazingly beautiful manor was built in the Italianate style in the 1850s and belonged to William Astor. The first building on the site of the modern mansion appeared yet in 1666. In 1984 the mansion was turned into a luxurious hotel with 38 guestrooms. It is known that the mansion is not in its best condition right now, so the new owners plan to make a multi-million renovation that will bring the building its former glory.
The sale was performed by Christie + Co that acted on behalf of administrators of former von Essen hotels. The sale of this property is a true pinnacle of the company’s work. The representatives of Christie + Co hope new owners will make all necessary investments to make the hotel attractive for growing number of overseas business and leisure travellers.
This hotel is the twentieth property sold out of 28 former von Essen hotels. The luxury collection, which once belonged to Andrew Davis, who had founded von Essen Hotels in the 90s of the previous century, was put under administration due to financial difficulties of the organization. Von Essen followed an aggressive acquisition strategy that prevented the company from maintaining acceptable RevPAR, leading to its bankruptcy.
