Melia Hotels will build a hotel in Manchester (the UK) and will invest £25 million into this project. The 208-guestroom Innside Hotel Manchester will not just be another 4-star accommodation. According to Melia, this is going to be one of a kind hotel in the UK. The anchor tenant building is developed by Manchester City Council and Ask Developments and will be located on the 20-acre large site on First Street. Near the hotel will be located Cornerhouse and Library Theatre Company. On the territory of the hotel will also work a restaurant, a bar, a conference center, and a spa.
Currently all hotel plans are submitted by Ask Developments and wait for their approval in the city’s council. It is reported that Melia plans to start building works in July. The opening of Innside hotel in Manchester is a part of the global strategy of the hotelier concerning the opening of Innside hotels in all main cities of Europe. A property in Manchester will also become the first hotel in the UK under this brand, but Innside hotels are already very popular in Germany and are loved by their contemporary design. Together with the hotel Melia will build a culture center that will be located just next to it. The 60,000 sq. ft. large culture center will have 2 theatres for 500 and 150 seats each, 5 cinema theatres, several restaurants, galleries and a large outdoor space for performances. It is reported that when all projects start operating in their full power, this will create up to 10,000 new jobs. The scale of all facilities is really large as Melia plans to attract around 1 million visitors a year.
First Street has been designed by Ian Simpson Architects. Besides the hotel and the adjacent culture center the street will be the location of a large 700-space car park, a 12-storey budget hotel with 108 guestrooms, and various retail and leisure activities.
