The operator of Seoul’s airport – the main airport in South Korea – has revealed its plans concerning the building of a casino resort near it. The resort, which building costs estimate $3 billion, will be targeted at Chinese travellers, who become more and more wealthy, and other visitors from Asia.
The resort will be located approximately 50 kilometers away from the airport. On the territory of the complex may be built a large hotel, several casinos, shopping malls, convention centers, and hospitals. The airports spokeswoman has added the airport wants to make this resort close to the same projects in Macau and Las Vegas. This is not the first initiative of such kind – currently around 65% of the airport’s revenue comes from hotels, duty-free shops and other services that have no connection to flying. It is also reported that travellers from China and Japan make approximately 25% of total sales in duty-free shops of Seoul airport. During January-October 2011 the total sales here have reached $1.26 billion. South Korea’s main air gate may soon beat Dubai International Airport and become the leading airport in the world in the volume of sales. Among other achievements of this airport are several titles “the best airport of the world” provided by the Airports Council International. Each year the airport handles around 35 million of passengers.
