French Hoteliers Call 2011 a Fine Year

News Even though 2011 wasn’t very successful for many European countries, French hoteliers call it a good year. The statistics for 2011 shows an increase of 5.5% in RevPAR (revenue per available apartment) in all segments. The growth has become possible thanks to the increase of two main indexes – the increase of ADR (average daily rate) by 3.4% and the growth of occupancy of 1.3%.

Such improvement is even more amazing if we mention that the main gear for it were 4- and 5-star accommodations. Here the growth of RevPAR reached 8.5%. 0-, 1-, and 2-star hotels also showed improvement, but it wasn’t as big - +4.3% for 0-1-star hotels, and +3.3% for 2-star accommodations. Such improvement is much bigger than in 2010 - +1.9% and 1.1% respectively.

Upscale segment has benefited from clients mostly from BRIC countries. Russian and Brazilian tourists have made a particular impact. The presence of tourists from the Middle East was also significant. As a rule, the Muslim people like to stay in French palaces in in June and July, but this year many tourists came in August because of Ramadan.

Of course, hotels in Paris are the leaders comparing to other hotels in the country. Here occupancy rate stood at the average of 80%, helping ADR to grow to 154.8 Euro (+6.8%).

RevPAR increase estimated 9.6%. Exceptional increases in the number of visitors were spot during Le Bourget Air Show, the European Society for Cardiology and the biannual Batimat collection. The city attracts both business and leisure travellers. Paris is also very beneficial when it comes to room rates. The city may remain popular in 2012 as well, as because of Summer Olympic Games 2012 London accommodations become pricier. Many tourists consider Paris and other French cities on the north as their “Plan B”.
