According to the statistics for the end of 2011, the majority of hotels in the Netherlands belong to hotels chains. Over 61% of all accommodations in the country belong to chains. This is considerably more than in the rest of the EU. The report provided by Horwath HTL also shows a rapid growth of this segment. Just 10 years ago the percent of chain hotels on the market of the country reached modest 35%.
Currently the number of hotels that belong to hotel chains reaches 560 properties with the total number of guestrooms reaching 57,800. All these accommodations work under 63 hotel brands. Local companies here occupy the leading positions. Van der Valk Hotels en Restaurants, which is also the oldest hotel company in the Netherlands, occupies the first place, while NH Hoteles is on the second place. The third place is occupied by Accor – the leading European chain of hotels.
The domination of local hotel chains is vivid in Top10 hotel chains in the Netherlands. Here a half of the top list is represented by local organizations. The companies with the national origin (30 companies in total) have 23 brands operating in the country, while 20 global companies have accommodations working under various 40 brands.
