Nordic Choice Hotels’ Clarion needs only exceptional staff, which is capable of both strong skills and personal talents. The company will open its new Clarion hotel in Gothenburg in January 2012. While choosing staff for the new hotel in Sweden, the company has skipped all those traditional interviews, and… has asked 1,300 job applicants to show off their talents. All people were divided into several groups and they had 2 minutes for their performance in front of the hotel’s management.
The majority of applicants have chosen more formal way of introducing themselves. They were speaking of their experience and expectations about the new work. However, there were people who were dancing, playing guitar or were telling jokes. One of the most memorable applicants, according to jury, was a man who entered the room in a smart suite, presented himself as if he was talking about another person, then changed his clothes to jeans and a t-shirt, took a guitar and presented his true self.
Of course, talent was not the only thing jury wanted to see, so all successful applicants had to pass through a 2 hour long test workshop, where they showed their skills and ability to handle various situations.
Nordic Choice Hotels started recruitment of this type in 2007. The company got attention from media, and over 500 people wanted to participate, so that was a definite success. The company insists that such approach to finding staff is good for the hotel’s image and allows finding best workers.
