C9 Hotelworks has published the information about the tourism in Phuket, Thailand. According to this data the rest of the year will be very profitable for hotels in Phuket as this destination is going to become uber popular.
This world famous resort was severely damaged by tsunami in 2004. Since that time it has been completely rebuilt and new tourists keep coming to this beautiful place. This year Phuket Airport may set up the new record as the total number of passengers arriving may reach 4 million. The performance of Phuket accommodations during 6 months of 2011 is really promising – comparing to 2010 Phuket is visited by 20% more tourists.
Bill Barnett, the managing director of C9 Hotelworks, mentions that RevPAR level of Phuket accommodations has finally overcome the pre-recession level. This summer occupancy grew to 73%. This is a truly inspiring result. Tourists are attracted by renewed hotels with well-developed infrastructure as well as by reasonable rates.
The main obstacle to the growth in the number of tourists is the abovementioned Phuket International Airport. Its handling capacity has come to its limit. In the nearest future the airport may not be able to provide space for all airplanes, causing delays for tourists. The expansion of the airport that will increase its capacity up to 12.5 million of people a year will start only in 2012. The total cost of this project estimates US$164 million.
