Chennai-headquartered hotelier Oriental Hotels Ltd. has announced the opening of a hotel in Coimbatore. This company is partially owned by the Taj Group (the group’s stake in the company estimates 34.47%), so the new property will be opened under the Taj Hotels brand.
The hotel’s full name will be Vivanta by Taj. This 180-key accommodation may start operating already this October or November. At the moment this company runs several properties in India. These are a hotel in Mangalore, a hotel in Madurai, properties in Coonoor, Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and 2 hotels in Chennai. One of these hotels in Chennai, Vivanta by Taj-Fisherman’s Cove, will be expanded. Currently this hotel has 106 rooms and soon a new block with 64 rooms will be added to it. 50 rooms out of 64 are already prepared, while the rest 14 are yet under construction. The hotel will be also equipped with some new facilities including retail shops, new reception, a lobby lounge, a swimming pool, and more.
The costs associated with the building and renovation will be covered by the increased income in 2010 and 2011 – the total income grew up by 18.2%. This has become possible due to the increase in the total occupancy - it grew from 62% to 68%.
