Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, a Mumbai-based hotelier, has prepared special uniforms for its front desk staff. The first property participating in the new experiment is the company’s flagship property Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai.
The uniform is the result of the collaboration between the company and a local designer Jay Ramrakhiani. The beautiful uniform combines such colors as navy blue, burnt sienna and fresh sienna. Ancient weaving craft of masters from Benares city is used in production. This initiative of creating a uniform has expanded into a large-scale project. First the company provided weavers with shelter, food, lights, and so on. Later Taj started several charity programs aimed to help infants and improve child nutrition at schools. Schools of Benares were supplied with computers to help children to learn more about weaving and graphic design. Taj plans to maintain this collaboration and products made by Weavers from Benares can be purchased in Taj Khazana boutiques that are located in various cities of India.
The cost of uniforms is not disclosed. It is only known that they are significantly more expensive comparing to usual uniforms. However, this fact doesn’t stop the hotelier and it plans to keep supporting this traditional Indian craft.
