In January-May of this year hotels in Abu Dhabi have shown strong performance, featuring a growth of 10%. During five months of 2011 this place has been visited by 10% more guests, raising the total occupancy rate to 70%. One of the reasons of such growth is in the lowering of rates that have made Abu Dhabi much more competitive.
Even though the influx of tourists grew only by 10% to 886,501 during 5 months of this year, the total number of nights spent in Abu Dhabi hotels increased by 26% to 2,615,503. This destination has wide international popularity, but it is more affordable comparing to other popular places like Rome, New York, Paris, Tokyo or even Dubai.
The occupancy rate of Abu Dhabi is even better than the occupancies of hotels in Berlin, Los Angeles, Beijing, Buenos Aires and Madrid.
The drop in rates has not caused the drop in revenues. RevPAR (revenue per available apartment) rate has grown by 5%. Moreover, the revenues from selling food and beverages have grown by 10%.
Such positive trend is caused by international tourists with guests from the UK occupying the leading role. During 5 months of this year 62,022 tourists from Great Britain visited Abu Dhabi hotels. This is 17% more than in the same period of 2010. Tourists from India occupy the second place (41,072 guests or +22%), while the Germans are on the third place (30,008, +15%). Abu Dhabi is also popular among tourists from France, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Italy and Kuwait.
The overall forecast for this region is very positive as August is the time of a holy Ramadan month. Autumn is also packed with various events – in November and December here will take place F1 Grand Prix and the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the UAE.
