According to the analysis of data provided by STR Global, the world’s global pipeline mostly consists of upscale and upper-scale accommodations. This trend is true for all parts of the world.
The biggest number of new properties in 2011 will be opened in Asia Pacific region – 139 hotels with the total of 38,000 guestrooms in upscale segment and 51 hotels with 13,000 guestrooms in total in luxury segment. Overall, the number of hotels in pipeline in the region reaches 1,227 properties and 302,858 guestrooms. During next 5 months here will be opened 324 hotels in all segments. In 2012 in this region start operating 424 hotels, adding 112,060 guestrooms to the market of the region.
The trend is the same in Caribbean and Mexico regions. Here upscale accommodations estimate more than a quarter of the pipeline. The share of other segments is the following – upper-midscale segment 23.4%, luxury segment 19.9%, and other projects – just 16.6%. 8 upscale hotels with the total of 2,028 guestrooms will be opened in this region in the reminder of the year.
In Europe the situation is almost similar. Among the hotels that are scheduled to open this year the biggest share, 22%, is occupied by upscale accommodations. The second place is taken by upper-midscale segment – 19%.
